Dear Commissioners,
According to the "Bozeman Daily Chronicle" HomeBase wishes to build a rental complexcalled The Guthrie at the corner of Lamme and N 5th Avenue. The article notes the
application calls for zoning exceptions to allow a 5 story building and parking for 30% of theunits.
Anyone living in Bozeman or northern Gallatin County knows full well that parking is alreadyat a premium in the area. And a 5 story building becomes an intolerable obstruction to all
surrounding buildings, cutting off access to sun and air. It certainly does not fall under thecategory of contributing to a clean and healthful environment in Bozeman.
Bozeman City Police should be put on notice to expect a drastic increase in calls to settledisputes over access to parking as a result of the 30% requirement.
I urge the City to come to their senses, deny the variances requested by HomeBase, place animmediate hold on granting any permits under the relaxed zoning for "affordable" housing,
and have the entire zoning rules rewritten by an actual resident of Bozeman, someone whoknows and understands our needs and priorities.
HomeBase and Andy Holloran are well known for exploiting and widening any tiny loopholein our zoning that he can find. And the variances he requests are always to his advantage,
never to the betterment of Bozeman and it's residents. They are not even a fair compromise. By moving his minimum wage employees out of his other commercial buildings Andy
Holloran will be able to return the hotel rooms back into the highly lucrative short term rentalmarket and increase his overall profit. This is just another example of the camel getting his
nose into the tent. Please deny any zoning variances requested for The Guthrie.
Sincerely,
Carolyn A. Fifer
