Hello, Below is the public comment I would like to submit for the Historic Preservation Advisory Board Special Meeting on 12/20/23. “As your board begins to plan for 2024 and the next two year work plan, I want to touch on the importance you all have in assisting with the Bozeman Climate Plan. Based on the Historic Preservation Program statement of “bridging the gap between the past and our future”, “celebrating community values”, and being “enjoyed by future generations”, your goals highly align with the objectives of the Climate Plan, such as “adopting bold targets for emissions reduction and renewable energy” and “weaving sustainability and resilience into decision-making processes”. Since you all have the decision making ability in the 10 historic districts throughout our city, I ask that you keep clean energy installation obtainable within these areas. As a small, local solar company, we help local residents and businesses get affordable and reliable clean energy. As Bozeman grows and development booms, permitting requirements, rightfully, become more strict. Our small team devotes so much of our time to meet the city permitting demands, when we really want to be educating and changing our community to meet the goal of having 100% net clean electricity by 2030. The solar installations done by Bozeman companies are done meticulously; we all want our city to have aesthetic and well-engineered systems. Requiring additional permits and tests for historic areas will increase costs and make solar installations harder to obtain, pushing local businesses away from clean energy, and therefore, complicating our path to achieving the Bozeman Climate Plan.
