Sunday, Dec 17, 2023; 1:25 PM To: Terry Cunningham, Deputy Mayor and Commission Liaison to the Sustainability Board (SB); Jon Henderson, Strategic Services Director and Staff Liaison to the SB; and EmmaBode, SB Chair Subject: Dec 19, 2023, City Commission Meeting, Agenda Item J.3 Appointments to the Sustainability Board—Request to appoint Nathan Gracey to the Sustainability Board I am writing to ask the Bozeman City Commission (CC) to appoint Nathan Gracey to theSustainability Board (SB). My reasons for making this request are as follows: I first talked with Nathan Gracey at the Nov 28, 2023, CC meeting, where he spoke as one of the twenty applicants for the vacant CC seat. Before that meeting, Nathan's applicationcaught my eye because he is a student at Montana State University (MSU) and an Environmental Studies major. Also, Nathan's application for CC indicated he had internedat the nonprofit Montana Public Interest Research Group (MontPIRG) and is interning at the nonprofit Cottonwood Environmental Law (CEL). During Nathan's 3 min at the podium onNov 28, I was impressed by his composure and thoughtful manner of speaking—qualities many older adults have yet to master. I have talked with Nathan several times during the past few weeks and have learned he hasa strong interest in and is an advocate for environmental sustainability—especially as it relates to urban growth. If appointed to the SB, Nathan would bring his education andwork/intern experience to bear on Bozeman's many ongoing sustainability issues. Also, Nathan would be a voice for Bozeman's younger generation—a voice sorely needed to helpkeep a rapidly growing Bozeman environmentally sustainable into the foreseeable future. Thank you for considering Nathan Gracey for appointment to the Sustainability Board. Sincerely,Daniel Carty 213 N.
