Dear Bozeman City Commission,
With initial public investment, the mixed-income public housing authority approach offers a
more self-sustaining, predictable and readily available solution to affordable housing that
provides units now. Without deed restrictions, housing based on the market and empty
promises of developers will never provide enough housing for low-and-middle income
workers when prices far outpace wages and income both locally and nationally.
Please consider this as a viable alternative to the “free-market” build anything, anywhere
strategy currently in place that simply hopes for the best in housing trickling down to those in
need. If a public housing authority is adopted, please also carefully consider the form this
housing takes, including ensuring that it does not excessively conflict with the character of
existing neighborhoods by adding 5 story complexes blocking views and the sun, negatively
impacts traffic, takes away green space and trees, and causes existing homeowners and
community members to consider moving away from Bozeman.
