Good Afternoon Mayor Andrus,
As someone who has been involved in speaking out against the proposed UDC and active in
the movement of city politics recently, I urge you to not appoint Mark Egge or Jason Delmueas the next city commissioner. It would be disastrous on several fronts.
In regards to Delmue, a colleague of mine put it well,
"As an infill developer who views every yard in town as wasted space he cannot possiblyserve as an impartial commissioner as the city rewrites the UDC. I urge you to recognize this.
Please.
He wants to profit from developments like the Cairns that would become possible on every lotin town if the current draft of the UDC were to be adopted. That is the very definition of a
conflict of interest. Ethically he probably shouldn't even be serving on the CommunityDevelopment Board.
If you appoint someone like Egge or Delmue I am afraid for the future of Bozeman. Not just
because of their views (those are dangerous enough) but because every city meeting for thenext two years will be a battle. Citizens will show up to oppose every effort, because they will
feel that the city has literally been handed to the developers. Groups like the BBC(betterbozemancoalition.org) will be forced into a watch-dog role rather than acting as a
willing partner to foster engagement and resident participation in city processes.
Please don't do this to the next administration.
We see what divisiveness does on a national level. I beg you not to put our beloved town inthat position."
Appointing either of these people, would not only further a gender-skewed commission, it
would be putting the fox in the hen house and without extensive citizen action and watchdogbehavior (which there will be), would lead to the certain demise of our fine city.
Thank you for consideration of my comments and thank you for your 13 years of service
Mayor Andrus. Warmly, Danielle
