TO the City Commission: Attached is my letter regarding the filling of the Open City Commission seat and completing I-Ho’sterm. Please forward to the City Commision before their Nov 28th, 2023 meeting. Asking City Commission to please consider these qualification in selecting a new commissioner. Kathy Powell406-600-1164powellgriz@icloud.com November 26,2023 TO: Mayor Cyndy Andrus Deputy Mayor Terry Cunningham Commissioner Jennifer Madgic Commissioner Chris Coburn From: Kathy Powell 406-600-1164 powellgriz@icloud.com RE: Filling the Open City Commission Seat As a past president of the University Neighbors Assoc (UNA) and past Vice President of the Inter-neighborhood Council (INC), I know that neighborhoods are the heart of Bozeman and they need to be represented fully on the City Commission. As you consider who to select to fill the Open City Commission Seat to complete I-Ho ‘s term , it is important that you think about a person who: 1. Has a record of public parcipaon 2. Is involved in the Bozeman community 3. Represents Neighborhoods 4. Looks out for neighborhood communies not just increased development 5. Cares about neighborhood character including preservaon of historic districts 6. Looks for ways to create & build more affordable housing while balancing neighborhood character and needs – Does NOT support more luxury condos 7. Is NOT a developer or a real estate agent 8. Is looking locally at Bozeman - NOT looking from a state perspecve as with the Froner Instute or on the Governor’s Housing Task Force who have recommended taking away local control of Housing 9. Has had leadership roles on City Advisory Commitees 10. Is the best qualified and can retain the balance of male and females on the City Commission (look to a well-qualified woman). As the City looks to revisit the dra UDC, it is important the new commissioner is a willing listener and ensures more public input from Homeowners and Renters. Thank you for considering these important qualificaons in selecng a new city commissioner.
