As Mayor and Commissioners, you have a difficult choice to make this week to find a replacementfor Commissioner Pomeroy. I would like to comment on Emma Bode’s qualifications.
As a commissioner, you need to be able to analyze complex topics, seek information from many
sources, and maintain strong paths of communication between stakeholders, from the business
community and other community leaders, to those who are struggling and often without a voice.
You need to have strong commitment, vision, and compassion.
I have known Emma since 2016 when she co-founded and led the Sustainability Now club atMontana State University, and I have worked with her many times since, in her role as organizer forForward Montana, and as Chair of the City’s Sustainability Board.
Throughout, Emma has had sterling commitment to environmental, justice, and diversity goals. Her
vision reflects that commitment. She is level-headed, always prepared, and easy to collaborate with.
She is a fabulous presenter, a skilled communicator, and always motivating and supporting
others. Her strong community organizing skills could possibly inform the City’s engagement efforts.
I have no doubt she would be a valuable peer in seeking input, analyzing, and providing informedand well considered leadership on the critical issues facing the Bozeman community.
