I was pleased to see the range and extent of interests in the field of candidates for the vacant Commission seat.
However , there is one applicant whose appointment would be contrary to the commitment to the community this
and other commissions have exemplified.
Mr. Egge is a member of the governor’s housing task force which has acted to wrest control of zoning issues from
local governments. Mr. Egge has also enthusiastically endorsed these efforts as a writer for the frontier institute. I
don’t recall a time when an ideologue has been elected to local government in Bozeman. Especially one whose
beliefs are contrary to the effective operation of the community.
In my career I worked as both a community planner and a transportation planner. While the two are linked they are
completely different disciplines. Transportation planning is largely quantitative and community planning should be
qualitative. Mr. Egge’s resume shows no formal education or experience with community planning nor does it show
any education, training, or experience with affordable housing other than a political appointment by the governor
and a self proclaimed “passion “ for the subject.
Please appoint one of the candidates who approaches this responsibility with an interested and open mind rather than
a predetermined agenda.
Thank you.
