I support the creation of a Public Housing Authority in Bozeman. The last decade has shown that private developers
are unwilling to solve the housing crisis. Instead, private enterprise pursues profitability over sustainability,
exacerbating ballooning housing costs, and deepening the divide between the haves and have-nots. Especially with
new laws coming from the state legislature, eroding the ability for public policy to direct development efforts, this
pattern will continue unabated. A public housing authority will help to ameliorate profit- and rent-seeking in the
affordable housing supply, and allow the community to pursue housing solutions geared toward fairness and
compassion. For too long have the economically disadvantaged been relegated to substandard and overpriced
housing, with little recourse to improve their circumstances due to burdensome cost of living.
