Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Commissioners,
Angela Kociolek has a long and impressive record of public service in many capacities. Her
competence is evident when she successfully shepherded the RPAB revisions to the Parks,
Recreation and Active Transportation plan to adoption. Her energy, commitment and knowledge
would be a constructive asset to the Commission. She is involved and knowledgeable in diverse
policy areas including but not limited to transportation, planning, zoning, environment, parks,
nonprofit organizations. She is a frequent, dependable volunteer for Hawthorn School. Her agenda
is very simply to serve the community that she loves deeply. She has no political agenda. When she
has questions, she initiates meetings and dialogue with city employees in a positive, thoughtful
manner. She is not divisive, she is not opinionated; she makes her decisions based on facts, research
and science. She is an attentive listener. She is straightforward and respectful to everyone she
meets.
Your commitment to diversity could be advanced by restoring some gender balance which was
reduced by the absence of I Ho. Her experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in Thailand brings a
depth of experience and her proven ability to navigate in complex environments.
We feel confident that I Ho would appreciate the appointment of Angela Kociolek to replace her
position on the City Commission since I Ho had a very positive relationship with Angela when they
shared their work on the Urban Parks and Forestry Advisory Board.
We strongly recommend you appoint Angela to the City Commission. Our community is struggling
with rapid change, great challenges and differences of opinion. Her many gifts will contribute to the
harmony of your governing body.
Respectfully submitted,
Jack and Jane Jelinski
