Dear Commissioners:
I have just read the proposed development of the land to the west of The Bozeman
Public Library and am appalled that the Commission has even considered
approving Left Lane's proposal. If this document is a record of"Understanding,"
does that mean you have already approved the proposal, without any advertised
notice to the citizens of Bozeman? The document states that the closing will be
January 24, 2025. Does this, as well, mean that you have already approved the
proposal?
The pictures of the proposal--I counted--have five floors, though the proposal
indicates seven. Which is it? The so-called "park" on top of parking is absurd!
And a swimming pool? And then there is the use of the roof of the parking
structure" will only be allowed "if such patrons are escorted and accompanied by
an employee of the Bozeman Public Library." Can you imagine this? And if, say,
25 patrons over a day wish to use the space, how are the employees to be found?
Then there is the following: timing at ALL LIBRARY PROGRAMING and ALL
LIBRARY EVENTS at their site with more than 15 guests will be "SUBJECT TO
PRIOR APPROVAL OF LEFT LANE." This means that Left Lane can censor
whatever programs or events that do not accord with its political or other beliefs.
Then also there is the Library itself, which was imagined and built and paid for
with bonds financed by the citizens of Bozeman. Did they figure that their special
place would be literally overshadowed by something built ONLY for the profit of a
few non-resident people? I can't imagine that the Left Lane proposal will benefit
Bozeman residents at all!
Sinc ely,
Jack Kligei an
