Nov 16, 2023, 4:15pm To: Bozeman City Commission Subject: 2023 City Commission Vacancy I am writing to ask the Bozeman City Commission to appoint either Angie Kociolek or JohnMeyer to the Bozeman City Commission. My reasons are as follows: Angie Kociolek for City Commission: Angie Kociolek has been active in City of Bozeman (City) issues for many years. For example, via her many written and oral public comments submitted to various Citizen Advisory Boards and the City Commission, Angie has tirelessly advocated for environmentally responsible development throughout the City. Moreover, Angie is the current chair of the City's Urban Parks and Forestry (UPF) Citizen Advisory Board (her term expires Dec 31, 2023). As UPF Chair, Angie played a major role in shepherding the City's 2023 Parks, Recreation, and ActiveTransportation Plan (PRAT Plan) through its editing and final adoption process. In addition to City-related issues, Angie has been active—and was an officer—in the Big Sky WindDrinkers, a local nonprofit running group for people of all ages and abilities. Overall, Angie is an individual who is invested in the well-being of the Bozeman community as a wholeand, whether appointed to serve as City Commissioner or not, will continue to advocate for land stewardship and the residents of Bozeman into the foreseeable future. John Meyer for City Commission: John Meyer is an environmental conservation lawyer who heads up the Bozeman nonprofit,Cottonwood Enviromental Law (https://www.cottonwoodlaw.org/). During John's recent campaign for Bozeman Mayor, he advocated for affordable housing, highlighted Bozeman'sgrowing water shortage, and advocated for environmentally responsible development. Given that John is a lawyer, he will be able to question some of the more draconian,development-related laws being pushed on the City by the Montana legislature. Also, John is fluent in Spanish, an attribute that will serve the City well as its Spanish-speakingpopulation continues to grow. John is an individual who is invested in the well-being of the Bozeman community as a whole and, whether appointed to serve as City Commissioner ornot, will continue to advocate for land stewardship and the residents of Bozeman into the foreseeable future. Thank for the opportunity to offer recommendations. Daniel Carty 213 N. Third Ave. Bozeman, MT 59715 dgc12@hotmail.com 406-548-2810
