Dear LIbrary Trustees, Thank you for the opportunity to comment on the proposed “public-private partnership” regarding a library parking structure. This one is one of the worst development ideas I’ve seen in my 30 years as a Bozeman citizen and volunteer. It isn’t a public-private partnership as the proposal alleges; it’s exploitation, pure and simple. Left Lane is betting we are aren’t intelligent enough to understand that they are proposing that we give up a lot – control over our own land, any possible expansion of our own library, our stewardship responsibilities to the valley we love, our quest to make local housing more affordable, and our own quality of life – in order to get a few parking spaces and an unneeded luxury development we neither want nor have the resources to accommodate (Even if the hotel owners can find employees, where are they going to live? Where is the water for all these people going to come from?). I’m also quite concerned by the notion that the “definitive documentation” would need to be completed by November 22, 2023 (uh, one week?). This is what people perpetuating some kind of con or fraud always do – produce a false sense of urgency so one doesn’t have time to think things through. This proposal must be rejected because it offers nothing of value to Bozeman, and overflows with dozens of other things that would be extremely detrimental to Bozeman, the people who live and work here, and to the library. Left Lane obviously thinks you’re not sophisticated enough to see through the double-speak in this proposal. I think you’re much smarter than that, and therefore know I can count on you to reject this proposal out of hand, with no further negotiation, at this Wednesday’s meeting. Thank you for considering my comments. Dan Kaveney 1496 Boylan Rd Bozeman, MT 59715 **
