Dear Ms. Gregory,
First, thank you for all the library is doing for this region, and has done in the past. Public Libraries are a
remarkable cornerstone of Democracy, and communities, and unique in their commitment to professionalism,
establishment of open and mutual respect with the community, and stewards of the paths of understanding and
knowledge. This may sound flowery, but I can remember back to my very earliest years, and the respect,
appreciation and regard with which my parents supported libraries, and the joy and peace and respect I always felt
when in a library.
I do not support this hotel plan. Our community has few and fewer open spaces. The library, and connection with
the lovely park adjacent, are examples of open space truly well done, visually, and as a natural flow through the
community. The parking is well integrated with this plan, providing open vista, quiet, easy access, human scale
connected with nature. The proposed use of the current Library parking offers disruption on many fronts -
construction, a massive structure, increased traffic, a commercial element, and basically, on so many levels, an
intrusion into our public space. If the hotel finds its current building plan does not have adequate parking, it should
relocate, or scale down its design to include its own parking, and take care of its own issues. This is just one more
example of development intruding on the public and in my opinion, gives nothing back. It only takes away from the
community.
Thank you for this opportunity to express my very deep felt concerns.
