RE: botched timeline on 6th Ave construction
From: Colleen Moore, 617 S. 6th Ave, Bozeman, MT 597115
I am writing to request a one time credit on the street maintenance assessment: for my
home at 617 S. 6th Ave. I am requesting a credit of $118.47. To avoid a penalty, I am
paying the current street maintenance assessment in full. However, I am requesting that
a credit for $11 f;;.47 be posted to my account for next year's bill.
The reasons are myriad. Really, more than 4.5 months for the project, during which
residents had NO ACCESS to our drivewayE1 That is more than one-third of the year for
a project that would be completed in most cities withiin approximately 1.5 months!
-- Could the city have supervised the contractor more effectively? I think so.
The excessive length of the construction was more than a mere inconvenience.
The alley wa._> busy due to the construction, and taking my bike out through the alley
for daily errands felt dangerous. Sometimes I had to navigate past more than one
vehicle parked in the alley that was transferring something to someone's home
(because of the lengthy inaccessibility of our street). During the last part of the
construction, the alley was covered in snow, and even on my winter bike, riding on it
was a dicey proposition.
I have never before stored my car outside of a garage. The wear and tear on the car
from being parked outside is quite noticable.
There are some sections of sidewalk that were damaged during construction and not
replaced, specifically at the corner of Dickerson and 6th Ave. Some damaged sections
were cut in half, and only half replaced. Penny-wise pound-foolish to the max.
Our homes were connected to a temporary water line for a lengthy amount of time.
The cold water ran hot for much of the day because the temporary plastic pipes were
exposed to sun. What leaches from temporary pipes when they are heated? No one
knows, so I purchased a water filter.
In view of excessive length of the construction, and the apparent failure of the city to
supervise it such that it would be completed in a reasonable time, asking for a one time
credit of half of one year's assessment is quite reasonable.
I have enclosed a self-addressed envelope, and I look forward to receiving a
response from you in a more timely fashion than the construction project was
completed.
