The plan provided by the developer is not very clear, but it appears that they want to take over all of the library parking lot and replace the west rows with a two level covered parking structure. Their plan would more than double the number of parking places for the public by turning the entire parcel into a parking lot for 75 years. The whole idea of this plan is terrible. There are no advantages for the library or thecity or the public. Public land should stay public for the use of the public, as a libraryexpansion, library programming space, another park, a community center, or all ofthose things. Leasing the land to a developer rules out creative public uses in the future. All the traffic from the two new buildings would go through the library parking lot. That 154 additional cars plus the loss of the traffic circle would create congestion near the library entrance endangering the many small children and elderly adultsvisiting the library. The scale of the proposed buildings is overwhelming, 7 stories. Parking can be built underneath the buildings. Downtown does not need another hotel. There are five new hotels already, including one a block away, plus another proposed for Mendenhall and Wilson Streets. This development is not suitable for Bozeman. The idea of stargazing stations is pretentious and totally useless (too much ambient light at night). I will not be able to attend the meeting on November 15. Please consider mycomments and do your best to defeat this proposal. On November 15th at 4pm in the large community room, the Library’s Board of Trustees will hear a presentation from the developers and decide whether to direct city staff to commence discussion with the developer on the proposed parking facility. You can review the materials here. This is a public meeting and the Trustees will welcome comments. If you have concerns about this proposal, please attend and make your voice heard.
