From: Per Saari (309 S. Wallace, Bozeman)
To: Bozeman Library Board, Bozeman City Commissioners
To Whom it May Concern:
As someone who would be personally impacted by the proposed garage development—myaddress is 309 S. Wallace—my heart sank at the prospect of the hotel garage being built where
the Bozeman Library parking area currently exists. Traffic, noise and a major environmentaldowngrade would be the new reality in a part of Bozeman defined by its open space, public art
and a vital community center. But I’m writing to you to voice an even bigger concern: thisseems like a terrible deal for Bozeman. As I, in an attempt to stay open-minded, make the list
of pros and cons for this proposed development, I cannot think of a single gain for Bozeman orfor the library. Not one. Bozeman forfeits a well-planned parking area full of trees and art
designated to the library—itself a years long endeavor by the Bozeman community for thecommunity—to benefit a business whose demands and needs could usurp the very institution
it now begs for permission. Bozeman deserves better. While development is inevitable and canbe done responsibly, it should not deteriorate the fabric of the community. Trading off library
land is the wrong course of action. Thank you for taking a moment to consider this letter—we’re counting on you, our leaders, to do the right thing for Bozeman.
Sincerely,
Per Saari
