Created on November 1, 2023 by Bruce Swann
Description
Quantity over quality I am writing the City Commission as a concerned Bozeman homeowner, who moved into a new house in 2022. I
have been a resident of Bozeman for over 18 years and my wife and I decided to move a bit closer into town and downsize. We decided to
buy a new home in the West Winds neighborhood, which was built by Williams-Homes. We love the decision to make the move but are
very frustrated by the quality of service from Williams-Homes. They tout themselves as a homebuilder, “building homes by their family
for ours.” Long story short, they are more of a real estate company; very transactional. Very supportive, friendly, and informative during
the buying process, but leave you high and dry a er the sale. A few observations based on our experiences: • They have a high turnover in
warranty and customer service (even locally). Weʼve had three Warranty Reps in less than a year, so problems get kicked down the road
with each rep. • They tend to blame issues on the weather, or subcontractors (true story). And… • Subcontractors are not happy with
Williams-Homes. The sub-contractors weʼve worked with share countless issues and frustrations with Williams-Homes. • While they have
eventually responded to our issues under warranty, we constantly contact them, remind them, and request follow-up attention because
many times, the work was never complete (or made worse). Border-line harassment isnʼt our style, but sadly that is what it takes to get
attention (if we are lucky). It is tough to write this because we want to project the value of our home. We feel constrained to complain on
social media or Better Business Bureau because we are reluctant to signal that the quality of the homes is in question. But at the same

time, need the homebuilder to step up, especially as they are embarking on 300+ homes just west of us. It simply doesnʼt cut it and I feel
strongly the city should at least be aware of how Williams-Homes treats customers and subcontractors.
