Applicant Information * Full Name Alison Sweeney * Residential Address 503 S 14th Ave Bozeman MT 59715 * Primary Phone (406) 404-5740 * Current Occupation Jeweler * Employer self * Email abernadettes@gmail.com Which position are you applying for? Historic Preservation Board Do you live in City Limits? (Some positions do require you live within Bozeman city limits, while others do not.) Yes How long have you lived in the Bozeman Area? 11 years or more * Have you ever served on a City or County Board or Commission? No Where, how long, and what Board? **SKIPPED** * Please describe your professional and personal experiences, interest, and qualifications that make you a good fit for this board. As a 6th generation Bozemanite my interest in local history has been largely personal and recreational. I attend events put on by the Extreme History Project in Bozeman. Just last spring I nominated them for an historic preservation award. I've recently found my pioneer father and mothers graves out at Brondel Catholic cemetery and have begun repairing the broken monuments. With increasing development in Bozeman's future I would like to help preserve our history in the built environment. * The City of Bozeman strongly values diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Describe any efforts you have engaged in to expand your understanding of DEI. I grew up attending Crow Fair, the largest encampment of Native Americans in the world. I attended Irving School, the international school, and grew up in MSU family housing which was a globally diverse community. My family is mixed race with my brother-in-law having married a Thai woman. We live a block apart and have a close knit relationship. When my neighborhood was littered with white supremacy trash I launched a sidewalk chalk campaign to cover our sidewalks with messages of inclusion. If appointed, do you understand you will be expected to take online and in person ethics training? Yes How did you hear about this board or vacancy? Linda Semones Is there any other information that you feel we need to know? I know the Historic Preservation Officer is guiding things in a more cultural, rather than strictly architectural direction, but I feel the two are very intertwined. While we try to protect old properties that express Bozeman's history in the built environment, they are much more meaningful when tied to the stories of Bozeman's inhabitants, which often include overlooked communities from Bozeman's past. The archeology, surprisingly still found in our city limits, is part of that story as well. If you have a disability that requires assistance or need accommodations, please contact our ADA Coordinator, Mike Gray, at 406-582-3232 (TDD 406-582-2301). Please note that for most Citizen Advisory Boards, materials are distributed electronically for each meeting. Your application and all information submitted is considered a public record. All applications are included in the City Commission’s Meeting materials for consideration which are electronically archived and available to the public. Page | 2
