Community Planning Board,
I am a born and raised Montana resident and Native American. My brothers, my husband’s family, my Children and
many many relatives have all graduated from MSU Bozeman. We own a Condo in Bozeman and pay taxes in the
county, we live in eastern Montana Sidney area. Our hope was to retire in Bozeman but that May no longer be
possible or desirable! We have enjoyed the community of Bozeman and Gallatin County since 1960’s. I know you
have heard this many times over but Bozeman no longer exists as it used to and no longer has the draw from locals
and native Montanans that it used to have. It used to be a place we all wanted to visit and go to college but it is now
a PLACE to avoid! People of Eastern Montana are no longer encouraging their children to attend college there. Are
out of state people and people with money more important than the people of Montana?
This board and the city commission and Gallatin county need to step up and start saying no to the development that
is taking place! The subdivisions, the development and the camper trailers and vehicles parked all over the city on
any street these people feel like it has to stop. It doesn’t matter if these people or homeless and or have jobs…they
do not belong parked on city streets!! There is a proposed development next to Kirk park, this is ridiculous. This is
poor planning…no thought seems to be given to the fact that there won’t be enough parking, the Neighborhood is
too small to absorb the amount of people proposed to be there. All of this demonstrates improper planning and not
enough thought given to this or any other new proposed projects. The city and Gallatin County is running out of
Water and literally running out of room to put people and their vehicles! It is time to put a moratorium on building
and development…you are simply out of room.
I live in eastern Montana in the heart of the Bakken Oil field and during the gold rush days of the oil boom we had
conditions similar to what is happening in Bozeman. Campers, Motor Homes, Semi trucks and any kind of vehicles
imaginable parked along residential streets, businesses, county roads, private land and people’s pastures! The local
people did not feel safe so our community leaders stepped up and did something about it. It was difficult but they
found solutions to the problem. They passed ordinances like no parking on streets and private organizations built
some apartments but the biggest thing was they brought in companies that set up man camps that provided a place to
sleep, eat and recreate. It has worked out well for our communities.
Please preserve what little is left of the Bozeman we used to know!!! Thank you for your time.
