I know the city needs to show some action to make housing affordable...and they have! There have been more
apartments built the last few years than existed when I moved here 30 years ago! Banning the handful of Type-3
rentals is window dressing at best and detrimental at worst. Those rentals will either get sold to persons who do
NOT need to rent them to afford to live there or they will be sold, torn down, and turned into larger single family
units that no low-moderate income family can afford. Even if a handful of the handful DO become long term rentals
they won't be "affordable" in the sense that the BTU "hopes" will happen. The negative impacts of this most likely
outweigh any benefits and the city would be much more positively impacted by enforcing the existing rules (on ALL
types of rentals) and focusing on planning/projects for actual affordable housing... that is Urban Planning. It is not
offering a populist band-aid to cover a systemic problem.
