Good Morning,
As a Montana native, resident, and taxpayer in Bozeman, I would like to express my beliefs on
short-term rentals (STRs). My family and I live in Bozeman and have an Accessory DwellingUnit (ADU) attached to our single-family home. Our ADU is used for short-term rentals,
which helps us offset the high cost of living in Bozeman, including mortgage, taxes, andoverall expenses.
In my opinion, short-term rentals such as ours significantly contribute to Bozeman's economic
growth. Many of our guests have expressed gratitude for finding affordable rentals inBozeman compared to hotels. Without short-term rentals, they would have to stay in Butte,
Livingston, or other towns, which would mean spending money in those towns instead ofBozeman.
I do not believe that limiting STRs in Bozeman would significantly impact making housing
affordable in Bozeman. Instead of penalizing Bozeman residents by limiting STRs andcreating a harder registration process for bringing positive economic impact into Bozeman,
wouldn't it be better to reward them? For instance, the last few football teams that came toBozeman to play our Bobcats couldn't afford to stay in hotels here and had to stay in Helena
and Livingston. It's unfair to blame STRs for the problem.
I strongly encourage STRs to remain as they are currently structured. They bring positiveeconomic benefits to Bozeman and help residents like me offset the high cost of living.
