Seems somewhat ridiculous that property owners can be told what can or cannot be done with their purchases. With STR’s affecting less than 2% of the market, I am somewhat confused on how this will help affordable housing. Bozeman is a wonderful place to live and the people that call this place home have worked their butts of to do so. I started my first job as a 15 year old making $8.25/hr. By the time I was 22 I had managed to save enough money to afford my first house with my brother. Since, the market has drastically changed, as we all have seen. Problems with land costs and higher building supplies have not helped the situation and thus leading to drastic measures such as ordinance 2149. Several families depend on such income whether it’s from an ADU or STR. Enforcing this could have said families forced to sell off their homes. Bozeman has several problems that don’t stop with eliminating STR’s. Focusing on infrastructure and our shantytowns should come first on the list. If 2149 passes, what will happen to the owners who won’t conform? Will it move to an “under the table” discussion? How will it be enforced? Maybe it will be a $25 fee for offenders like we have seen elsewhere.. Please take this into consideration as we as a community have much to discuss to make this a better place for our next generation. Luke R.
