Dear Council,
I am very disappointed and disturbed by your treatment of STR owners. We are property owners just like others and
we have rights! We contribute to the cities economy in many ways: through visitors, bed tax, licensing, employment
of managers and cleaners and most of all we provide a unique and desirable experience for those traveling to
Bozeman. Not everyone wants a hotel. We never stay in them when we travel including abroad. Vacation rentals
allow you to be part of the culture, save money by cooking (at least some) at home, and enjoy a local experience.
We are not going to provide low income housing. That just isn’t what we do. You need to figure that out.
Instead, you violate the Migratory Bird Act at Canyon Gate, go against the cities wishes elsewhere, ignore your own
planning commission and side with developers at all costs. It isn’t working, the city is about to rebel!!!
We cannot lose our retirement income. We have followed all your rules and that’s not enough. Why can’t you just
enforce the rules you’ve made and grandfather in the existing compliant STRS? We’ve done our part, now you need
to uphold yours. You have plenty to do to just enforce the rules that exist.
