Regarding the proposed ban on short term rentals, I want to comment as an owner of a short term rental property.
My family poured our hard earned retirement savings into a rental unit as an investment. It is properly licensed
through the formal channels. We are both tax paying and hard working members who actively contribute to the
community. An outright ban would be devastating, and would be very unfair and I also believe would be contrary to
the takings clause of the US constitution. When citizens invest in a business venture, a governmental body should
not simply take that away from them. I believe existing licensed rentals should be grandfathered in, rather than
forcing people to lose their hard earned businesses. I recognize the intent of the ban but I also implore the
Commission to recognize the hardship that this would pose to a small business owner who has devoted his life
savings to this investment.
