Dear commissioners
I am writing on behalf of the STRs vote.
Please vote NO.
I am a resident of Bozeman and live in the city limits. I am a real estate agent, parent of 4 Bozeman schoolchildren.
There are so many reasons to vote No. But for starters my children are in many athletic competitions from track,
basketball and soccer. This year we have had several major tournaments or canceled because athletes and their
families cannot afford to stay in our community for even a weekend . If you have never tried to stay here, the costs
on a busy weekend range from $509-900 a night for a single hotel room in Bozeman. Because there are not enough
hotel rooms or STRs to house these families. You might say “so what!”
Well these cancellations cost and will cost even more revenue to our restaurants, shops and city amenities .
Plus now instead of competing in our city we must travel to Salt Lake, Pocatello or somewhere more affordable with
STRs to house our family of 6.
As a real estate agent and ownership in a city development. Your lack of clarity has cost us and my clients from
proceeding on finishing our projects or breaking ground on new construction. Who is going to invest in Bozeman
when something you have invested your time and money will be banned for absolutely no good reasons.
If you want to regulate STRs, than great but don’t ban them. You now allow marijuana to be sold in our city which
is banned federally, but you want to prohibit citizens from using property as tools to earn legal money and provide a
needed service.
Shame on this ridiculousness. Meanwhile living in campers on the street is fine.
The purpose of STRs is often a stop gap for people as a short term option. Please consider voting NO.
