Dear Commissioners,
I attended the meeting yesterday and thank you for holding it for community input on the
updated UDC. I appreciate the commissioners taking the time to listen to the community. There is clearly a lot of passion about this issue from the residents.
Unfortunately, the proposed changes still are unsatisfactory, as you saw from the
overwhelming comments and attendance yesterday. We do not want four-plexes built in oursingle family neighborhoods. While I do support a single ADU on a property, I do not want
any duplexes or higher density housing in my R1 neighborhood.
As many of the residents stated yesterday, there are many areas in the city already zoned forR2, R3, and R4 and those areas such as south of town and off of 19th should continued to be
developed without destroying the beautiful single family neighborhoods all across the city. Asone person yesterday stated, " We feel like we have a bullseye on our backs".
I also feel like there is so much outside investment coming into the city, that the developers
couldn't care less about our community, and that it's all about dollars to them, as clearly shownin the first draft of the UDC.
As another resident also stated last night, our greenspace in the city with beautiful mature trees
and landscaping is at risk of turning in to concrete spaces which are not only unsightly, butincrease temperatures in the city. Several articles over the past year have shown that reduction
of greenspace and increase of urbanization increases local temperatures in the city.
I urge you to reconsider this proposal and keep Bozeman the beautiful city that we've come tolove. We do not want our R1 zoning changed.
Sincerely,
Adam Makhluf
