Honorable Mayor Andrus, Bozeman City Commissioners, and members of the Community Development Board:
I attended the Inter-Neighborhood Council meeting last night, representing the Northeast Neighborhood
Association, at which Chris Saunders made a presentation and responded to questions regarding the UDC update
and process. I have to say I am surprised by the level of outrage over the draft, and especially the anger and
frustration expressed about the process. I feel the City has tried to engage residents for the past year in this process,
and I'm not sure why residents feel they are only hearing about it now for the first time.
That said, I came away from that meeting last night feeling that it would be best for the health of the
City—and the relationship between the City government and residents—if the schedule for completing
the process was delayed. I see no reason why it needs to be completed by year's end if it is at the expense of that
City/resident relationship.
Clearly people are paying attention now, and feel the need to be heard. I think announcing a slowing down of the
process would go a long way toward making this process and outcome acceptable to more residents.
Thank you for all of your efforts to engage the public.
With my best,
Amy Kelley Hoitsma
