I write to urge the City Commission to vote NO on Ordinance 2149. The proposed ordinance is arbitrary and unfair to
many of our residents in Bozeman, especially those who have invested time, energy, and resources into creating short-term rentals and who now in various ways rely on them. It is also destructive - Bozeman thrives on receiving visitorswho fill our bars and restaurants and shops, and furthermore the availability of short-term rentals enhances the
prospects of those who live here to be visited, something that is essential for many Bozeman residents in times of need.
The proposed ordinance is also not helpful - all the evidence that has emerged in discussions of short-term rentals andaffordable housing supports the conclusion that in the case of present-day Bozeman, these phenomena are notmeaningfully connected, and the proposal will simply be a waste of time as far as addressing affordable housing is
concerned.
I join with many others in urging the City Commission to vote NO on Ordinance 2149, and to instead take up the causeof affordable housing with more promising, empirically-informed plans and policies.
Sincerely,
Kyle Fruh
