To Whom it may concern,
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to express my deep concerns regarding the
recent discussions surrounding the potential ban on short-term rentals within our city. Iunderstand that such decisions are made with the best interests of our community in mind, but
I would like to shed light on how these regulations could significantly impact not only mylivelihood but also the futures of many others in our industry.
I have been employed in the short-term rental industry for several years, and my job, along
with the jobs of countless others, revolves around providing services to guests and propertyowners who utilize short-term rentals. These services encompass a wide range of roles, from
property management and cleaning services to hospitality and customer support.
If our city were to hastily implement a ban on short-term rentals, it would undoubtedly have aripple effect on our local economy. Here are some key points to consider:
1. Job Losses: Many individuals and families rely on the income generated through short-term
rentals to make ends meet. Banning these rentals could lead to a wave of job losses, causingfinancial hardships for our community members.
2. Local Businesses: Short-term rentals often contribute to increased patronage of local
businesses, including restaurants, shops, and attractions. A decline in tourists staying in ourarea could negatively impact these establishments.
3. Tax Revenue: Short-term rental hosts and platforms often pay taxes that contribute to our
city's revenue. A sudden decline in short-term rental activity could lead to a reduction in taxincome, potentially affecting public services.
4. Housing Availability: While concerns about housing availability are valid, we believe a
more balanced approach, such as reasonable regulations, can address these concerns withoutan outright ban.
I urge you to consider a more inclusive and collaborative approach that involves input from
industry stakeholders, residents, and experts in the field. Together, we can work towardssolutions that address the concerns related to short-term rentals while preserving the
livelihoods of those who rely on this industry.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to the opportunity to engage inconstructive dialogue on this matter.
Sincerely,
Caleb VanceUnwritten and Company
