To the members of the Bozeman City Council, I found out this week some very disturbing and disheartening news. That the city council was considering among other things, rezoning the historic district of Bozeman to be able to be used for multifamily dwellings. As a descendent of four (Watermans, Arnolds, Flannerys and Boyles) of the founding families of the city of Bozeman, I am quite concerned about the new proposal. My pioneer families have historic homes stillstanding in the city. And I know those founders would be very unset to see how the future of Bozeman is treating all their efforts. How is it possible that you are negating the historical aspects and foundations ofBozeman and those who worked so hard, in the mid 1800s to create a town that is thriving today. Their homes and history should be honored and preserved, not destroyed for multifamily apts/condos/and townhouses and 7 story office buildings. What a travesty!! I along with many others feel that this will destroy the integrity of thetown and community. And obviously by doing this rezoning without much, if any, public notice, I think you know the community feelings about this. I feel that the citizens and extended families of the founders deserve to be heard andthat their views be respected in this proposal. This is not something to be taken lightly and needs at least a several months of consideration and research of all the different ways this will impact the community and surround areas. Please do the right and ethical thing and take the time to open this discussion up to the community at large. And then proceeding in a respectful and principled manner. Any attempts to rush this proposal through is so wrong on some many levels.
