As a local, female business owner and mother, I am appalled at the current condition of our city with regard to the allowance of homeless establishments (“urban campers”). 30 day permits and $25 fines (the possibly of) is an absolutely ridiculous minimal-effort solution to the problem of people parking vehicles and campers as well as depositing their trash outside my business and my daughter’s preschool. Not to mention utilizing the resources provided by my business - i.e. restrooms. Simply stated, this is unsafe and unsanitary. I understand the complicated nature of people’s situations, but when drugs and theft and other aggressive crimes are involved and harbored, it becomes a significant concern for the tax paying and income producing community. I urge a zero tolerance policy. ZERO TOLERANCE. ESPECIALLY WITHIN PROXIMITY OF SCHOOLS AND PARKS. The consequences of aggressive and predatory behavior to a child are severe. As a woman, the city is sacrificing my safety for the appearance of “tolerance”. As a business owner, you are saying my taxes and fees do not matter. My entrepreneurship is irrelevant. The well-being of my employees is a responsibility you are willing to assume? As a mother, the safety of my child is arbitrary! Again, I urge a zero tolerance policy. ZERO TOLERANCE. ESPECIALLY WITHIN PROXIMITY OF SCHOOLS AND PARKS. Jessica Snyder
