Hetherington - Transportation Planning10/4/23, 3:12 PM about:blank about:blank 1/3 Customer Submission #CS-23-667 Open Created on October 3, 2023 by Kathryn Hetherington Print Description Some years ago, I easily found all the commissioners email addresses and sent them each an email. Apparently, they don't want to be contacted with ease anymore. I can reach my US legislators more easily. I submitted a letter to the editor in 2021 for a friend twice (she is in a wheelchair) and it was not published. In years past, the prior editor published all letters unless there was something naughty or incorrect. Now, it is almost worthless to send a letter with a conservative viewpoint, so we have basically lost our free speech in the media. So I am gong to send the letter to the commissioners for a response. Since this letter was written, 1) traic problems have soared 2) gridlock is more common 3) drivers are racing through red lights possibly due to being frustrated with traic 4) Billings has completed the next north south trunk west of Shiloh with huge round-a-bouts 5) Davies/Fowler has been on the map for, what, 15 years- and now finally, it is on the table -I think 6) the new development on the NW side of Davies is approved, but Davies should be 4 lanes before that construction begins (will it?) guessing the answer is NO. You are improving Baxter but it's closed for a year? Why can we not be ahead of development like Billings, instead of 25 years behind ? Your roads are failing! Bozeman, MT 121 North Rouse Avenue , Bozeman, MT 59715 Letter to the Editor Bozeman Daily Chronicle 2820 W College St Bozeman, MT 59718 The commission has added to the city’s top priorities, climate action (just how much money that might be, we will never know (generally 30% extra for a new building), and with little to no effect) but I don’t see infrastructure listed as one of the 7 priorities. Transportation in this city is a nightmare, and gridlock will continue and will increase because the city commissioners refuse to build 4 lane roads. We have seen the failure of the round-a-bout on Ferguson. Take a look at the county’s round-about on Baxter and Love for a successful venture. Done on time. Why does Oak still narrow from 5 lanes to 2 lanes west of 19th when Oak is supposed to be 4 lanes-- causing traffic to back up to 27th at times. It is time to finish Oak as planned and yes, that will mean ripping out trees and sidewalks by the retirement facility. How could that have possibly been approved? Who approved it? Do they still have a job? Why does the city never do roads right in the first place? They build a partial road until they can assess the next builder/developer with the remaining road cost. They build 2 lane roads and then expand to 3 lanes (still just a 2 lane road with an expensive turning lane) which always costs more than just doing it right in the first place. Maybe the commissioners should visit Billings and drive the new Shiloh Road, 4 lanes with 9 round-a bouts – built before development, and completed, done, finished. They should ask Billings how they can stay ahead of development rather than 20 years behind.
