Dear City Commissioners,
Please do not move forward at this time with the re-draw of zoning codes for the City of Bozeman.
As near as I can tell, there is no reason to be in a hurry here. Please use the time allotted to consider
the full range of alternatives that the legislature has mandated.
While affordable housing certainly is a concern, there’s not much evidence that we can build our
way out of that problem.
One of the primary features of Bozeman has always been the established neighborhoods in the older
areas of town. Please respect the folks who have invested their life’s work in purchasing and
maintaining homes there. Changing the character of these neighborhoods in hopes of making
significant inroads on the affordability of Bozeman seems unlikely to succeed, while being quite likely
to bring about negative consequences for the people who have worked to make Bozeman the
attractive city that it is.
Let’s give the proposed zoning changes more thought.
Thank you for your efforts.
