Dear Commissioners,
As a former City Commissioner and Mayor, I find it disheartening to read of your apparent intent to undercut the
guidelines meant to support the Overlay Districts, and the historic character of many neighborhoods. I remind you
of similar conditions that pre-existed these changes, when many historic homes without review were allowed to be
carved into multiple units with a resultant decline of neighborhood quality. There was often little investment in
upkeep and was a factor in declining community image and economy. The turn around with these changes after
1990 was almost instantly realized.
Must you be reminded, that many of us, in our earlier lives, had a somewhat compromised housing status. You also
know how we gradually improved our lot slowly over time. Yes, some chose to cast their efforts elsewhere.
Please maintain a more balanced perspective for the offices you have been entrusted.
Sincerely,
Bob Hawks
