Fiedler - Re_ Ordinance 2147From:Bill Fiedler To:Agenda Subject:[EXTERNAL]Re: Ordinance 2147 Date:Tuesday, September 26, 2023 12:36:45 PM CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe. Good afternoon, Commissioners. This email is intended to express my dissatisfaction with the version of Ordinance 2147 adopted in the September 19th Commission meeting. In my previous email I stated support for the proposed ordinance. After the commission heard public comment and discussed the ordinance, the adopted version does little to nothing to address the growing issue. Based on the commission's lack of action on this issue it is becoming increasingly clear that neither the City Manager nor the City Commission has any desire to find a solution to this issue. I would encourage all of you to have dinner at Applebees tomorrow night. Afterwards, take a leisurely walk down West Hemlock taking in the sights and smells. Experience the Bozeman you have allowed to take place. Maybe on Thursday night you can take your kids and your dog for a walk in my neighborhood, down Equestrian or Galloway off of Baxter. I'm sure you would be completely safe and unthreatened by the occupants (despite open threats on social media). I'm told they are harmless. I guess really all we, the residents, have to be concerned about is the garbage, drug paraphernalia, and human waste. If only there was an ordinance (or many) already on the books to address this from happening in our community. There are MANY other neighborhoods that are affected by your unwillingness to enforce the statutes and ordinances on the books. Unfortunately the problem continues to fester because of your lack of action. It is time to fix this problem. Begin enforcing the ordinances already in place to prevent this from happening. Let the police do their job and enforce the rules that we all agreed to...the rules that the Commission and the City Manager have decided are no longer relevant. You were elected/hired to keep our city beautiful and keep tragedies like this from happening. Enough excuses. Fix this. According to the published agenda for the 9/19/23 Commission meeting you will be asked to provisionally adopt Ordinance 2147 on Tuesday evening. While I do not believe Ordinance 2147 goes far enough to address the growing issue of people living on the streets of Bozeman, I believe it is an important first step in addressing an issue that affects Bozeman tax payers. I encourage you to adopt Ordinance 2147 with the understanding that much more needs to be done to find a lasting solution. The reputation of Bozeman, under your watch, has been blemished by inaction. Now is the time to step up and protect your community and the reputation of your community by taking the necessary action to keep our home clean, safe, and law abiding.
