Dear City Commissioners of Bozeman,
I understand the need for affordable housing in Bozeman and I am NOT a NIMBY-supporter.
However, with the proposed changes to the zoning regulations - i.e. making R1 and R2neighborhoods "open season" for the rapacious developers, we will NOT solve the problem of
needing affordable housing in Bozeman, but we will help the Yellowstone Club clients makemore money, and in the process, destroy the character of our neighborhoods.
There must be a more measured approach to encouraging building of affordable housing,
while holding the reins on building yet more ski lockers for the wealthy out-of-staters. Yourcurrent proposal is a sledge hammer and not an effective solution to enhance the building of
affordable housing. Could there be some metric applied: for every 1 x $1 million condo, 4units of affordable housing must be built? If regulations on builders could be applied while
also changing the zoning regulations, I could support some compromise on zoning. Again, Isupport infill housing and don't want to be Palo Alto, CA. But sadly there are far too many
greedy developers in town who have already forever altered the character of our town and theywill perceive your zoning changes as a green light - full steam ahead - on development for the
wealthy.
Thank you for your time and energy on this important matter -all best,
Frances Lefcort
