I want to add my strong objections to the proposed rule to require RV campers to move every 5 days. My reasons are as follows” 1. This is an unnecessarily demanding proposal. Imagine yourselves having to hook up and move an RV every 5 days while working one or two jobs. 2. This accomplishes nothing except to make homelessness in Bozeman more difficult. So, what if they move every 5 days? They are still there and the fundamental problem still remains. 3. This will require significant additional policing. Judging from the non- enforcement of driving laws I’m assuming we are short-staffed in the police department. If this proposal goes through we will require police to monitor the length of stays throughout the city and, I would suggest, we can expect more speeding, running red lights and hitting bicyclists than we do now. 4. This proposal does nothing to solve the basic problems of homelessness, garbage and alleged danger to “good” citizens. If you are going to address the problem, fine those with garbage around their RV’s and patrol for those alleged threats to our children and businesses. It wouldn’t take more policing than checking how long all RV’s have been parked every 5 days. In closing I would question whether the issue is of more concern to a vocal minority than a likely majority that can sympathize with the plight of struggling people trying to make a living in an increasingly unlivable city. Thank you for considering this if you’ve read this far. Bruce Smith 1116 Cherry Drive
