Development board UDC.docx Thank you, City Of Bozeman This is an automated message generated by Granicus. Please do not reply directly to this email. September 18, 2023 Development board, I’m writing in opposition to the proposed UDC chapter changes. This is a drastic change to zoning in Bozeman and will forever negatively impact our most cherished neighborhoods. The city commission has done a great job of keeping this issue hidden despite their claims otherwise. They seemingly have made up their minds already and, as the development board, you need to bring clarity to the commission. That clarity being the strong opposition to this bad idea. 2 weeks ago, in a virtual meeting on the proposal, a city staffer claimed, ‘the commission wants to have this wrapped up by the end of the year.” Meaning only one thing, approved, by the end of the year. On the current website it says, “A report on public engagement conducted before the draft was released to the public has been prepared.” Really? A report on engagement before the draft is released. The quiet “open Houses” really don’t qualify as true public engagement do they? How about a full-page ad in the paper detailing the pros and cons? At your last meeting Chris Saunders told the assembled citizens He didn’t want to hear “why you don’t like it.” He wanted the public to suggest alternatives. Our job is to say it’s wrong, we pay him to use his training to find a better alternative. I’m insulted by a public employee telling me, a taxpayer who pays his salary and benefits, that I can’t say I don’t like something government is doing. Again, at your last meeting, even the highly paid consultant said most of his clients get public input first and then the commission weighs towards the end, while it’s been the opposite in this case. Disdain for public opinion by the staff and commission has never been higher which only means this is a really bad idea. You need to step up and do your part. Sincerely, Mark Holiday 2826 Colter Ave
