Dear City Commission,
I am reaching out regarding the proposed rezoning recommendations you allreceived from an outside development consultant. As someone who was born andraised in Bozeman, the growth and development of open spaces is bittersweet for me- I recognize the need to provide housing yet can't help but feel sad at the loss ofopen space an character of this beautiful valley.
The proposed changes to RA and RB zoning attack the one remaining pillar of 'oldBozeman' which is the downtown neighborhoods with their charm, character andcommunity. And while I want to believe the driver behind these changes is a positiveone (in-fill vs. sprawl), I can't help but think ruining the neighborhoods that do existwill only create a larger wedge in our community and kill the magic that does remainin our small neighborhoods.
Development in the valley is running rampant - why not focus attention there tocreate smart, human centered design high-density housing in all of the newdevelopments (start from the ground up). Destroying the old heart of downtownrather than focusing on the areas where development is in-flight feels short-sightedand greedy.
If you vote yes on this proposal, please know you have lost my vote because it willbe made clear that your values are not the people you represent but rather theinterests of developers and out of state money.
BestKatie Coyle
