The Aluminum Association, however, lists many finishes, some of which are not often used in architectural applications. In order to keep costs down and to maintain optimum shipping schedules, while still providing the finest in architectural aluminum, Oldcastle Glass® Engineered Products currently offers seven standard finishes. For internal record keeping, a 3-digit designation has been assigned to our standard finishes. It is important to check metal seams, sills, crevices and other areas that can trap dirt, cleaner or water, to be sure they are clean and dry. It is recommended that a final inspection be made to verify that no stains or discoloration remain on surfaces. Cleaning, Care and Maintenance of Anodized Finishes Architectural aluminum finishes, whether painted or anodized, require care before and during installation and periodic maintenance after installation. Although resistant to corrosion, discoloration and general wear, both types of finishes can be damaged by neglect, abuse and harsh chemicals. Also, exterior surfaces collect various amounts of dirt and soilof course, the amount depends on the environmental conditions, the building elevation and the type of finish. Architectural aluminum should be cleaned at least once a year to prohibit accumulation of soil, which can speed-up the weathering of finishes. For efficiency, glass and aluminum cleaning should be scheduled simultaneously. More frequent cleaning is recommended for finished aluminum that is exposed to harsh marine environments. Buildings located in certain areas also may dictate more frequent cleaning. These include locations in heavy industrial areas, locations with heavy rainfall and sheltered areas lacking rainfall and encouraging condensation. These include: Cleaning should start at the top of the building, moving down to the ground level in a continuous descent the width of the scaffolding. Always consider the effects of run-off on personnel, plants and equipment when scheduling the cleaning of finishes. Choose the appropriate method of cleaning for the type of finish. First test a small area of the finish and follow recommendations for mixing and diluting cleaners. Avoid using abrasive materials such as steel wool or hard-bristle brushes, which can damage finishes. Strong window glass cleaners that may come in contact with aluminum should not be used. Do not use paint removers, aggressive alkaline, acid or abrasive cleaners. Never mix cleaners or substitute heavy-duty cleaners when milder cleaners are specified. Be sure that all sponges, cloths and other cleaning equipment are free of grit. Do not clean finishes during extreme temperatures, which can accelerate chemical reactions, therefore causing streaking or staining. Post-construction cleaning should take place as soon as possible, due to the fact that mortar, cement and other alkaline materials will corrode anodic coatings when allowed to dry on the metal surface. Brickwash, which is also acidic, can corrode anodic coatings. Stain RemovalAnodized Finishes If general cleaning procedures have been attempted, the next step is cleaning with an abrasive pad soaked in clean water or mild detergent. Hand-scrub the metal surface using a small, nylon cleaning pad. Rub the metal in the direction of the grain. After cleaning, rinse the surface thoroughly with clean water or wipe with solvent to remove all residue. If cleaning solutions have dried on the surface, wipe dry with a clean cloth, squeegee or chamois. For the removal of heavy soils, a power-cleaning tool may be needed. If this operation is necessary, the surface must be kept wet with a clean water or mild detergent to provide lubrication and dirt removal. As with hand cleaning, alternate horizontal and vertical strokes should be used. The area then must be rinsed and scrubbed again with a hard-bristle brush. The operation is completed by a final rinse, and the surface is wiped dry or air-dried. Any cleaner running down onto unclean surfaces should be removed to avoid staining. Cleaning of Non-Water Soluble Deposits for Anodized Finishes Non-water soluble deposit such as grease, tar, oil and paint may be removed with solvents. Prolonged contact with solvents may also damage organic sealants, gaskets and finishes. Always avoid using solvents on anodic finishes protected by clear coatings such as lacquer. Use organic solvents in accordance with manufacturer’s safety recommendations. Most organic solvents are flammable and toxic and should be handled with extreme care. Use protective clothing, goggles and be sure of adequate ventilation. When using solvents, avoid open flames, sparks and electrical motors. As stated earlier, cement, mortar and other alkaline materials, as well as acid-based cleaning materials for masonry products, are damaging to finishes and should be removed with soap and water immediately. Coatings that protect finishes at the job site include: Lacqueralthough a clear lacquer coating can temporarily protect the surface of anodized aluminum, it has draw-backs, which include: Changing the appearance of anodized finishes. Making the surface seem painted rather than anodized. Causing small white areas to appear where there is a loss of adhesion. Strippable Plasticthese plastics have been available for some time, but they also have weaknesses: They are developed with cohesive strength but inadequate adhesive strength. Uniform thickness is difficult to achieve, and where the film is thin, the cohesive strength decreases and the adhesive strength increases. Exposure to the sun can make the vinyl film brittle. Thin coatings can be difficult to remove. Thick coatings, on the other hand, tend to peel off prematurely. If the time is taken to properly apply these plastic coatings, they can provide adequate protection at the job site. Insulating Coatings for Anodized Aluminum For jobs that require that the architectural aluminum be attached directly to other metals, a coating should be applied to act as an insulator between the two metals. A zinc-based primer is the most common coating. It should be applied to the steel or other metals, as opposed to the aluminum--its pigment offers cathodic protection for the coated metal. The formulation used depends on the solvent system, as well as the vehicle used. Zinc and clear lacquer are often used when aluminum is installed with direct contact with uncured concrete plaster and other alkaline material. This type of coating protects the aluminum from corrosion. Bituminous paint is also used for insulation. It has very good resistance to water, salts, acid and alkaline that depend on water as a carrier for ionization. Bituminous paints are inexpensive allowing contractors to use a thick coating, which provides insulation against galvanic action. These paints are easily dissolved with almost any organic solvent. Page 3 of 3 LIMITATIONS, EXCLUSIONS AND EXCEPTIONS LIMITED WARRANTY All claims pursuant to this Limited Warranty must be presented in writing by the Purchaser of the Product (the “Purchaser”) to the plant referenced on the reverse (the “Plant”) within ten (10) days of the Purchaser learning the facts upon which the claim is based. No warranty claim may be made after the passage of the applicable warranty period. Any legal action in respect of any claim under this Limited Warranty shall accrue on the date the Purchaser discovers or should have discovered with reasonable diligence the facts forming the basis for such claim. Notice of any claim under this Limited Warranty shall not be considered given unless it includes a copy of the Invoice referenced on the reverse; the date and place of purchase of the Product; the name, address and telephone number of the installer of the Product; and the name, address and telephone number of the Purchaser. No claim under this limited warranty shall be available without proof of purchase of the applicable product by the purchaser making the claim. Limited warranty claims made prior to payment in full by Purchaser for the Product shall not be honored. Failure to make payment in full for the Product on or prior to the date payment is due therefore shall void this limited warranty. Upon validation by the Company of any Limited Warranty claim, the Company, at its sole option, shall either (a) furnish the Purchaser with a replacement Product or, if the Product is no longer made, a substitute product which, in the sole discretion of the Company, is comparable to the original Product, F.O.B. the Plant, freight collect, or (b) refund the original purchase price which the Purchaser paid for the failed portion of the Product (less freight and other charges). A comparable substitute product, whether fabricated by the company or by a party chosen by the company in its sole discretion, may have characteristics including, but not limited to, color and/or surface appearance which vary from the original product but shall nonetheless satisfy the Company’s obligation to replace the Product. If the Company elects to supply a replacement or substitute product, the Limited Warranty on the replacement or substitute product shall extend only for the balance of the original Limited Warranty period of the failed Product. In no event shall the Company be responsible for any costs attendant to replacing nonconforming or defective Products (including, but not limited to, labor costs), other than as specified in this paragraph. At the Company’s request, all defective Product which is replaced or substituted for pursuant to this Limited Warranty shall be returned to the Company, at the Purchaser’s expense, within thirty (30) days after such replacement or substitution. The Company specifically disclaims responsibility for any damage to any product caused by, or which results from, improper installation, including any installation not performed in a good and workmanlike manner in accordance with industry standards and applicable shop drawings, ordinances and safety codes; provided that, in addition, such installation shall be performed at any higher standards as shall be set forth in any installation instructions provided by the Company; improper maintenance; storage in other than a good and workmanlike manner; abuse; damage or breakage caused by persons other than employees or agents of the Company while being handled, installed, shipped, glazed or used; damage caused by improper building design or construction; thermal breakage; building or foundation movement; use upon the Product of any cleansing or treating agents; atmospheric pollutants or contaminants, or runoff; leachate from building components; use of the product with incompatible glazing or other materials; or use of the Product for purposes not considered suitable therefore by the Company. No warranty is provided in respect of any damage to or failure caused by any of the foregoing. The remedies provided herein and in the Company’s invoice for the Products constitute the purchaser’s sole and exclusive remedy under any claim or theory of liability in respect of the company’s manufacture, sale or provision of the Product or any warranty in connection therewith, including, without limitation, claims based upon failure of, or defect in, the Product, whether a claim, however instituted, is based upon contract, indemnity, breach of warranty, tort (including negligence and/or strict liability) or otherwise, the Company shall not be liable for consequential, indirect, incidental, punitive, exemplary or special damages, claims or costs of any nature including, without limitation, labor costs of any kind relating to the removal of failed products and/or reinstallation of replacement products therefore, or damages, claims or costs otherwise arising from, or in connection with, alleged breach of any limited warranty or negligence on the part of the Company. If Purchaser is sued by any third party for Product failure under warranty or any other theory, Purchaser shall provide the Company at its Plant with written notice thereof with a copy of any and all pleadings served upon Purchaser within ten (10) days of such service and provide the Company with an opportunity to inspect the allegedly defective Product. Failure to comply with the foregoing shall void this Limited Warranty. Any waiver by the Company of a deviation from any of the terms or conditions in this Limited Warranty shall only be for the specific deviation so waived and shall not be construed as a waiver of any other term or condition nor a continuing waiver of the term or condition so waived. The Company reserves the absolute right to inspect, in the field or at the Plant, any Product that is alleged by the Purchaser to be defective. Failure to afford the Company the right to inspect allegedly defective Product promptly upon the Purchaser becoming aware of any defect therein voids this Limited Warranty. It is the express wish of the parties that this limited warranty and any related documents be drawn up and executed in English only. The bringing of any suit, action or proceeding by the Purchaser which is not in compliance with the foregoing shall void this limited warranty. This limited warranty; the credit application, if any, completed by Purchaser; the Company’s glazing instructions, if any; and the invoice for the purchase of the product constitute the complete and exclusive statement of the terms of the agreement between the Company and Purchaser with respect to the subject matter hereof and supersede any other writing, document or agreement. This limited warranty may not be modified, including pursuant to any order made by purchaser or in any other document, unless such modification is made in writing and executed on behalf of seller by its president. This limited warranty is extended to the Purchaser of the Product only and any claim hereunder must be made solely by the Purchaser. This limited warranty is not transferable without the prior written consent of the Company, which may withheld entirely in its discretion, and any attempted assignment without such prior written consent shall void this limited warranty. Hardware provided by OBE for entrances shall carry a one (1) year warranty for operability. Hardware provided by a supplier other than OBE shall be excluded in total from this warranty. Finished surfaces on materials are excluded from this warranty. This warranty is void in the event of defective installation or lack of project site protection of materials furnished by OBE. Any materials furnished by OBE, which are found prior to installation not to conform to the above warranty, will be replaced by OBE as promptly as possible so as not to delay progress of the project, but OBE shall not be responsible in any way for such delays. The erector shall be responsible for any non-conforming material which is installed, rather than replaced, during initial installation and shall carefully inspect all materials prior to installation to minimize delay and assure continuation of the warranty. OBE will not be responsible for the labor and other costs of installed materials which are non-conforming unless said non- conformity could not have been discovered by inspection of the erector prior to installation. Page 3 of 3 LIMITATIONS, EXCLUSIONS AND EXCEPTIONS LIMITED WARRANTY All claims pursuant to this Limited Warranty must be presented in writing by the Purchaser of the Product (the “Purchaser”) to the plant referenced on the reverse (the “Plant”) within ten (10) days of the Purchaser learning the facts upon which the claim is based. No warranty claim may be made after the passage of the applicable warranty period. Any legal action in respect of any claim under this Limited Warranty shall accrue on the date the Purchaser discovers or should have discovered with reasonable diligence the facts forming the basis for such claim. Notice of any claim under this Limited Warranty shall not be considered given unless it includes a copy of the Invoice referenced on the reverse; the date and place of purchase of the Product; the name, address and telephone number of the installer of the Product; and the name, address and telephone number of the Purchaser. No claim under this limited warranty shall be available without proof of purchase of the applicable product by the purchaser making the claim. Limited warranty claims made prior to payment in full by Purchaser for the Product shall not be honored. Failure to make payment in full for the Product on or prior to the date payment is due therefore shall void this limited warranty. Upon validation by the Company of any Limited Warranty claim, the Company, at its sole option, shall either (a) furnish the Purchaser with a replacement Product or, if the Product is no longer made, a substitute product which, in the sole discretion of the Company, is comparable to the original Product, F.O.B. the Plant, freight collect, or (b) refund the original purchase price which the Purchaser paid for the failed portion of the Product (less freight and other charges). A comparable substitute product, whether fabricated by the company or by a party chosen by the company in its sole discretion, may have characteristics including, but not limited to, color and/or surface appearance which vary from the original product but shall nonetheless satisfy the Company’s obligation to replace the Product. If the Company elects to supply a replacement or substitute product, the Limited Warranty on the replacement or substitute product shall extend only for the balance of the original Limited Warranty period of the failed Product. In no event shall the Company be responsible for any costs attendant to replacing nonconforming or defective Products (including, but not limited to, labor costs), other than as specified in this paragraph. At the Company’s request, all defective Product which is replaced or substituted for pursuant to this Limited Warranty shall be returned to the Company, at the Purchaser’s expense, within thirty (30) days after such replacement or substitution. The Company specifically disclaims responsibility for any damage to any product caused by, or which results from, improper installation, including any installation not performed in a good and workmanlike manner in accordance with industry standards and applicable shop drawings, ordinances and safety codes; provided that, in addition, such installation shall be performed at any higher standards as shall be set forth in any installation instructions provided by the Company; improper maintenance; storage in other than a good and workmanlike manner; abuse; damage or breakage caused by persons other than employees or agents of the Company while being handled, installed, shipped, glazed or used; damage caused by improper building design or construction; thermal breakage; building or foundation movement; use upon the Product of any cleansing or treating agents; atmospheric pollutants or contaminants, or runoff; leachate from building components; use of the product with incompatible glazing or other materials; or use of the Product for purposes not considered suitable therefore by the Company. No warranty is provided in respect of any damage to or failure caused by any of the foregoing. The remedies provided herein and in the Company’s invoice for the Products constitute the purchaser’s sole and exclusive remedy under any claim or theory of liability in respect of the company’s manufacture, sale or provision of the Product or any warranty in connection therewith, including, without limitation, claims based upon failure of, or defect in, the Product, whether a claim, however instituted, is based upon contract, indemnity, breach of warranty, tort (including negligence and/or strict liability) or otherwise, the Company shall not be liable for consequential, indirect, incidental, punitive, exemplary or special damages, claims or costs of any nature including, without limitation, labor costs of any kind relating to the removal of failed products and/or reinstallation of replacement products therefore, or damages, claims or costs otherwise arising from, or in connection with, alleged breach of any limited warranty or negligence on the part of the Company. If Purchaser is sued by any third party for Product failure under warranty or any other theory, Purchaser shall provide the Company at its Plant with written notice thereof with a copy of any and all pleadings served upon Purchaser within ten (10) days of such service and provide the Company with an opportunity to inspect the allegedly defective Product. Failure to comply with the foregoing shall void this Limited Warranty. Any waiver by the Company of a deviation from any of the terms or conditions in this Limited Warranty shall only be for the specific deviation so waived and shall not be construed as a waiver of any other term or condition nor a continuing waiver of the term or condition so waived. The Company reserves the absolute right to inspect, in the field or at the Plant, any Product that is alleged by the Purchaser to be defective. Failure to afford the Company the right to inspect allegedly defective Product promptly upon the Purchaser becoming aware of any defect therein voids this Limited Warranty. It is the express wish of the parties that this limited warranty and any related documents be drawn up and executed in English only. In the case where a part that needs replacement has been discontinued or is no longer available, HGI reserves the right to substitute comparable parts of equivalent function to replace the Product(s). In no event will HGI’s liability under this Warranty exceed the purchase price of the Product(s) purchased. HGI will bear no other expense, such as labor cost of any kind. Exclusions and Limitations This Warranty shall not cover or apply to: normal wear and tear; glass breakage outside of what is covered in the bath and shower enclosure warranty sections; improper or negligent installation, tampering, neglect or any reason not related to defects in material or workmanship of the relevant parts; glass, hardware and insulating glass seal failure caused by acts of God (including, without limitation, fire, floods, extreme weather, earthquakes, crime, labor strikes, war, riots or social unrest, collectively “Acts of God”), an intervening cause or by any other cause whatsoever not within HGI’s exclusive control; insulating glass units with single seal systems or with angular spacer junctures commonly referred to as “cut corners”; failure due to mishandling, loading, unloading, storage, misuse, abuse, and improper installation, including failure to follow HGI’s installation instructions, and care and maintenance instructions (available at www.hartung-glass.com or from your authorized HGI dealer); scratches, abrasions, corrosion or delamination from the use of abrasive cleaners, solvents, acids, alkalis or any other chemicals used on or around the parts; applications where films, signs or similar devices have been applied to the surface of our products; incompatibility to other glazing or installation materials such as coatings, sealants, adhesives, setting blocks, lubricants, gaskets, insulation or any other related materials; installation of parts (excluding shower and bath enclosures) in a continuous or cyclical high moisture environment, including but not limited to a swimming pool, sauna or greenhouse enclosures; installation in a high vibration environment, including but not limited to motor vehicles, travel trailers, aircraft, watercraft and other mobile applications; inadequate or improper design, specification or usage; damage, failure or breakage caused by localized application of heat which causes excessive temperature differential over the glass surfaces or edges; applications where installation is performed by persons who are not qualified glaziers or authorized HGI dealers; insulated glass units larger than 70 square feet in size; insulating units or laminated glass products installed which exceed 15 degrees from the vertical or which are installed with exposed edges; laminated glass glazed with materials which do not completely repel water for the life of the warranty, or with materials that deteriorate the architectural or security laminated glass products; glazing system applications without a weather seal that is impervious to water, or without a proper weep system; spandrel glass products used in vision applications; mirror glass installed or used in a non-indoor application or where measures are not in place to facilitate incidental moisture evaporation behind the mirror; mirror failures resulting from the use of incompatible mastics/adhesives; shower enclosure, TVS entrance, interior partition and railing hardware finish failure caused by normal weathering, chalking, scratching, fading, corrosive atmospheric contaminates (e.g. chemical fumes, pollution), negligence, abuse, accident, shipping, improper use or installation, fire, flood, exposure to corrosive elements or Acts of God or other causes unrelated to defective materials or workmanship; tub and shower enclosure glass identified after product installation as having scratches, chips, water spots, glass breakage or any other defects; Oil-Rubbed Bronze hardware used in TVS entrance and interior partition systems; glass fabricated by third party suppliers; shifting, settling, or any failure of building structures or foundations; and products manufactured by HGI or HGI’s subsidiaries featuring customer’s own glass. Glass Surface Protection Systems HGI offers glass products featuring surface protection coatings like Guardian ShowerGuard®, Enduroshield EasyClean10 and Aqualite5. HGI provides no warranty with respect to the performance of those protection coatings. Please refer to the manufacturer websites for each of these respective products for any applicable warranty terms offered by the manufacturers of those coatings. Additional Terms and Conditions For tub and shower enclosures, Warranty coverage is only available if Original Purchaser completes online product registration within 30 days of purchase. HGI reserves the right to charge for delivery of items covered by the Warranty. This Warranty will be void in the event that full payment is not received for goods and services within the agreed terms of sale. This Warranty shall be governed by the laws of the State of Washington, excluding any conflict of law rules of such State. In the event of any dispute or legal action, such dispute or legal action shall be brought exclusively in the appropriate federal or state court sitting in King Country, Washington, notwithstanding any claim of forum non conveniens. The prevailing party in any such action shall be entitled to receive all costs and reasonable attorneys’ fees, including on any appeals. All terms in this document that are defined or given meanings in the Uniform Commercial Code, as adopted in the State of Washington, will have the same definition and meaning for purposes of this document and sale of goods. This Warranty may only be modified upon written approval of HGI’s President or Vice President. Coated Glass Products supplied by HGI are manufactured to comply with the requirements listed in ASTM C1376 – Standard Specification for Pyrolytic and Vacuum Deposition Coatings on Flat Glass. HGI has earned and maintains fabricator certifications for Guardian Glass’ Select Fabricator program and Vitro’s Certified Fabricator Network. Heat Treated Glass components supplied by HGI are produced to comply with the strength and quality requirements listed in ASTM C1048 – Standard Specification for Heat-Strengthened and Fully Tempered Flat Glass. Tempered glass supplied by HGI is produced to comply with the ANSI Z97.1, CPSC 16CFR1201 (Category I or II) and CAN/CGSB-12.1-M90 safety standards for glazing materials. Spandrel Glass supplied by HGI is produced to comply with the requirements listed in ASTM C1048 – Standard Specification for Heat-Strengthened and Fully Tempered Flat Glass, Condition B. Laminated Glass supplied by HGI is manufactured to comply with the requirements listed in ASTM C1172 – Standard Specification for Laminated Architectural Flat Glass. V-061621| Page 1 Recommended Cleaning and Maintenance Instructions for Glass Products The implementation of proper glass cleaning methods and maintenance procedures are critical in reducing the likelihood of glass damage during the cleaning process. This document provides cleaning and maintenance instructions recommended by Hartung Glass Industries (HGI) for use with its Architectural Glass, Laminated Glass, Spandrel Glass, Decorative Silkscreened Glass, HD Glass, Flat Glass Mirror, and Shower and Bath Enclosure Glass products. Architectural Glass Product Cleaning Guidelines The National Glass Association (NGA) has a published informational bulletin titled, “Proper Procedures for Cleaning Architectural Glass Products” that outlines a set of recommended cleaning guidelines for glass products used in both commercial and residential applications. Laminated Glass Product Cleaning Guidelines The cleaning of laminated glass products supplied by HGI should also be performed in accordance with the guidelines listed in NGA’s “Proper Procedures for Cleaning Architectural Glass Products” technical document. Additional cleaning instructions pertinent to specific categories of laminated glass make-ups are listed below. All Laminated Make-ups • Do not expose laminated glass edges to organic solvents, acids or any cleaner containing ammonia, which can adversely react with the laminated glass interlayer materials. Laminated Polycarbonate and Unbalanced Glass and Polycarbonate Laminates • Exposed polycarbonate surfaces and polycarbonates with scratch-resistant coatings require additional care to avoid damage and scratches. Do not use abrasive cleaners or cleaning products that can mar or gouge the surfaces. Wash polycarbonate laminates with a mild soap or detergent (e.g., Formula 409 All Purpose Cleaner) and lukewarm water using a clean sponge or soft cloth. Rinse well with clean water. Dry thoroughly with a chamois or moist cellulose sponge to prevent water spots. Do not use a squeegee or clean in the hot sun. Avoid cleaners that contain ammonia. V-061621| Page 2 • Fresh paint splashes, grease and smeared glazing compounds can be removed easily before drying by rubbing lightly with a quality grade of VM&P naptha or isopropyl alcohol. Afterward, finish with a warm wash, using a mild soap or detergent solution and ending with a thorough rinsing of clean water. Spandrel Glass, Decorative Silkscreened Glass and HD Glass Cleaning Guidelines For ceramic frit spandrel, Opaci-Coat® spandrel, decorative silkscreened, and HGI’s High Definition Glass (HD Glass) ceramic ink digital print glass products, cleaning practices should be conducted in accordance with the instructions listed in the Architectural Glass Product Cleaning Guidelines section of this document. When Opaci-Coat® silicone painted glass products are used in spandrel applications, coating surface cleaning prior to product installation may be necessary. Cleaning procedures should include the following steps: • First remove any obvious visible debris. • Pour or dispense isopropyl alcohol (IPA) onto a clean, soft, absorbent, lint-free cloth. • Wipe the coated surface with the IPA and cloth. • Repeat the steps above using a 2nd clean, soft, absorbent, lint-free cloth. • Wait 5-10 minutes for the alcohol to fully flash off the coating before installation. Flat Glass Mirror Glass Product Cleaning Guidelines Precautions need to be taken to avoid exposing mirror glass edges from coming into contact with any liquids or substances that could cause damage commonly referred to as “black edge corrosion”. Should mirror edges become wet, they should be dried off immediately. The NGA’s “Proper Procedures for Cleaning Flat Glass Mirrors” informational bulletin addresses how to properly clean mirror products to avoid black edge corrosion along with other types of glass surface damage. Recommendations from the informational bulletin on how to properly care for mirror products are as follows: • The very best and safest cleaner for a mirror is clean, warm water used with a soft, lint-free cloth. Wring all water from the cloth before wiping the mirror. Dry the mirror immediately with a dry, lint-free cloth. • Don’t use acid or alkali cleaners for mirror cleanup after installation. Either substance can attack the front surface and edges as well as the backing of the mirror. No abrasive cleaners should ever be used on any mirror surface. • Don’t spray cleaners directly on the mirror. Always apply cleaner directly to a soft, lint-free cloth and then wipe the mirror. This will help prevent the cleaner from contacting the edges of the mirror and damaging them. • Don’t clean across the face of multiple mirrors at the same time. When cleaning several mirrors installed on a wall, wipe the joints in the same direction as the joints. This will keep the cleaner from collecting in the area where the mirrors join. • Don’t use commercial mirror cleaners that contain ammonia or vinegar. • Do use 0000 oil-free steel wool, not solvents, to remove surface marks or stubborn dirt. Use of solvents can attack and damage the edges and backing of mirrors. • Do use soft, lint and frit free cloths to clean a mirror. This reduces the chances of scratching the mirror surface. • The last step to cleaning a mirror is to make sure all joints and edges are dry so that no liquid or cleaner comes into contact with the edges and backing. Shower and Bath Enclosure Product Cleaning Guidelines Shower Glass • For general shower and bath enclosure glass product cleaning and maintenance, follow the Architectural Glass Product Cleaning Guidelines outlined above. A best practice is to squeegee shower and bath enclosure glass frequently, then dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Using a squeegee after each shower helps keep spots and scale from accumulating on glass components. HGI also recommends cleaning the glass regularly with a glass cleaner. Read labels on cleaning products thoroughly before using. • Avoid abrasives, bleach, acidic or vinegar-based cleaners and scrubbing pads. Read labels on cleaning products thoroughly before using. If your glass is coated or treated with surface protectants, follow the maintenance instructions specific to the coating you purchased. Metal, Hardware and Vinyl • Avoid using cleaning liquids, powders and pads with abrasive or acidic qualities. Read labels on cleaning products thoroughly before using. HGI recommends that these components be wiped down frequently with a dry, soft cloth.
