To Whom it may concern;
The reason I oppose banning STR:
First of all, I appreciate the fact that everyone is trying to find solutions for the high
cost of living in Bozeman. I agree that something has to be done. This just isn't it.
The thing I don't agree with is the fact that Short Term Rentals have anything to do
with making Bozeman more affordable. If you took all these options away in my mind
it will make everything more expensive because you are just taking options away for
people to stay. It will make hotels more expensive and any other option of a shorter
stay in Bozeman. You are taking away supply so everything else will go up. This will
make events in Bozeman unaffordable so people will no longer visit, the income of
many businesses will be hurt by this.
It makes no sense to think that if you took away the ability to STR that somehow a
home owner is going to rent that property out under market and lose money every
month. People bought these properties with the ability to STR and if you take that
away the value of the property will go down and so will their income. I know there are
people that can afford to stay in Bozeman because they can STR their property. If you
take that away they can no longer afford to live here.
Keep in mind I don't own a short term rental and have no skin in the game, I just
know this will be awful for Bozeman and there are many better ways to make
Bozeman affordable.
