Dear Commission, I am writing in response to the upcoming vote on August 8th regarding campers parked on public streets. I 100% support and request that you both make the ordinance to include there be NO CAMPING adjacent to residences, schools and daycares. In addition, I 100% request that they need to move their vehicles and campers every 5 days. Living in these campers has become a permanent residence for 90% of the people doing so, and it is not a good long-term option or solution. 90% of these campers and vehicles are not even capable of moving and I don't feel these people have any intention of leaving. The streets behind our house near Baxter & Davis are riddled with campers. My once beautiful view is now full of broken down campers and trash. This location is near residential apartments, single family homes and Chief Joseph Middle School. Many kids walk and ride their bikes to and from school from surrounding areas. It simply is not safe for these kids to have to go near these campers. I understand you feel that many of these camping inhabitants are working folks who cannot afford to live here. I beg to differ. As a retired individual ( taxpayer ), I drive by them quite often. I can tell you with almost 100 % positivity, these people are not working or contributing to our community in any way, other than negatively. I am going to say 10% of them honestly work and take care of the area around their campers and vehicles, the rest are junk holes. I also have been privy to information that one of the couples living like this are actually dealing drugs and are informants for the Bozeman Police Department. We travel quite a bit and can tell you, even in the very liberal states we visit such as California, they are NOT ALLOWING this to happen! ( with the exception of San Francisco area and I don't go there for that reason ). With the new HRDC shelter being built, there is no longer any reason we need to worry about the 9th Circuit Court decision that came out of Boise, ID. If all of Southern California can get away with not allowing this, Belgrade and many other areas, we can too. Additionally, I have not even had time to mention the fact that they are polluting our lands and waterways. If the DEQ came down and actually tested the soil and waterways that pass through these areas, I bet the results would be pretty bad! The one camper right behind our house has a WASHING MACHINE outside their camper!!!! Thank you and I hope to hear a positive outcome after the 8th!
