City of Bozeman, My husband and I live at 1019 S.3rd, Bozeman and we are members of the University Neighborhood Association. We, have long supported our neighborhood parking ordinance. I file these comments because of several recent developments which are concerning. First, we understand the City suggesting a fee increase for our neighborhood parking permits. We don’t necessarily oppose this relatively modest increase but we strongly object the way it has been handled, particularly on the lack of adequate public notice. Here, we endorse and support the comments submitted by our neighbor, Dr. Sam Mitchell and we will not reiterate those comments here. However, I note the City proposes to charge a lower fee for MSU employees. But first, this parking ordinance was for residents— to allow residents to park near their houses without having to combat a crowd of vehicles non resident MSU students and employees. It’s unclear to me why parking permits are allowed to nonresidents in the first place. But, setting that aside nonresidents should not be allowed to pay less. Finally, seems to us the City keeps re-visiting this issue with the attitude that seems hostile to protecting parking for residents. We are particularly appalled by the amount of taxpayer money that the City spends on “ consultants” when this is not a new concept, or particularly complicated and when nothing comes out of these consultant reports. The basic policy and structure are in place, it just needs to be enforced. Jill Davenport Jill Davenport
