Dear City Commissioners:
I am writing to oppose the proposed Ordinance 2131. This ordinance is highly invasive of private
information and creates safety concerns for owners, operators and guests of short-term rentals. The
reporting requirements go above and beyond what is necessary to the enforcement of this
ordinance. The requirement to post a copy of the City STR Permit in all advertising would release
information regarding the owner’s address and contact information. Furthermore, the requirements
to report each booking transaction and rental dollar amount for each booking is private financial
information. Again, this is not necessary for the enforcement of the ordinance. This would make
Bozeman’s short term rental ordinance one of the most invasive ordinances in the nation. The
reporting requirements also use the language “not limited to” leaving the reporting open-ended for
possibly even more invasive reporting. If the City wishes to change the reporting requirements in the
future, they should do so by following the proper procedures, including notice to the public and
public comment before doing so. For these reasons, I am against the Ordinance 2131.
Thank you for your consideration on this matter,
Fenia Hiaasen
