Dear Mayor and Commissioners,
I urge you to approve the request by Family Promise of Gallatin Valley for an allocation of $400,000 to
be used toward the purchase of the Montana Bible College campus, to serve FPGV’s clients in need of
emergency, transitional and workforce housing. The families we serve need safe and comfortable
housing with features that are appropriate for children. Currently we have to serve our most
vulnerable families in hotel rooms that are not designed for long term living or for children, and are at
times unsafe. We have many families on a waiting list for any kind of shelter. If we are able to
purchase the Bible College campus, we will be able to greatly increase the quality and quantity of
housing options for our clients. When these folks are housed and stable, they contribute to our
community and make a positive economic impact. Investing in them means investing in our community
as a whole. We urge you to allocate the requested funds.
This purchase would allow our organization to be located all together on one campus instead of being
spread out throughout the Valley like we are currently with our two emergency shelters. It would also
allow for our storage space to be consolidated on one campus not only for the ease of our donation drop
offs, but also for the families in which we serve to shop for items when they're able to move into their
new homes.
Thank you for your support of our very important mission serving children and their families who are
experiencing homelessness in our Valley.
Sincerely,
Michelle Thorn
