Good Morning!
Please post the attached statement (which I read last night to the CC) in the Fowler Ave folder.
Many thanks!
GOALS for maintaining Fowler Avenue as an open space:
Safety
• Environmental: air quality, ambient temperature cooling effect, ground water
purification, carbon sequestration, flood control
• Individual: pedestrian, bicyclist and current home owners
Preservation – historic and natural resources to provide habitat for native plants and wildlife;
tree house building and outdoor education venue.
Community Identity – “Tree City”, Bike Friendly City, Outdoor Recreation & Education
destination
Potential Partnerships: Historic Preservation Committee; Montana ArtOne; MOSS; GVLT;
Chamber of Commerce; Museum of the Rockies; Pioneer Museum; Extreme History Project
The Fowler Avenue Extension corridor offers our city a rare opportunity to utilize this open,
green space as a wildlife and native plant refuge and safe pedestrian and bike way for school
children, commuters and recreational enthusiasts. The joining of the Bozeman Pond and
Centennial Parks with a trail meets all the goals of the City to provide our citizens with a safe,
healthy and beautiful environment in which to live - but only if our elected leaders seize this
opportunity. Paving over the majority of this green swath and covering the irrigation ditch is
not a community-appropriate action in meeting our purported common goals. How many
more injured pedestrians and cyclists do we need to endure? Based on past development of
other connectors we all know that the mature trees will be removed and the natural landscape
will be disturbed. We do not need more sprinklers and manicured/weed free areas.

Vision Statement for the Fowler Avenue green space.
Welcome to the Fowler Historic Preservation, Nature & Art Walk. Park your car at the
entrance on Oak Street and pick up your trail guide at the visitors center. You can choose from
several age appropriate worksheets featuring native plants; wildlife; indigenous people;
settlers/pioneers; agricultural and industrial history; Art installations and
history/wildlife/native plant fact plaques will be installed along the way offering the hiker an
insight into the history and values of the Bozeman community.
