Billion - Urban Camping Cindy Andrus, Mayor June 10, 2023 Bozeman City Commission Dear Mayor Andrus, We are writing to you today on behalf of our Kean Drive neighborhood to ask for ACTION against all the homeless campers that have invaded our city streets! They are ruining the safety and security of our city that we have lived in for over 57 years! We understand that the city has a parking ordinance that requires cars/vehicles/campers must be moved every 72 hours at least 500ft away! Why is our city and current police force NOT ENFORCING those parking rules! I am enclosing a copy of the parking ordinance along with some photos of our once beautiful city. With this email we are asking the city commission to address this citywide problem of homeless encampments and require them to relocate somewhere outside the city! It is not safe and it is not legal! Our neighbor's home was broken in to 4 weeks ago by a homeless drug addict. He trashed her home, drank all her liquor, broke lamps, artwork, and windows! When the police finally captured him in a stupor close by............we found out that because the jails are full.....and he had mental issues.................he was given a trial date and let back out on the streets with no bail! Apparently, Bozeman jails do not want to deal with mentally disturbed people when they are full! WOW........THAT MAKES THE CITIZENS OF BOZEMAN FEEL SAFE! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, discuss and address the growing homeless camper parking situation in Bozeman! INSTRUCT OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT TO START TO ENFORCE THE PARKING CODE ON THE BOOKS! Break up these street side homeless parking lots and move them outside the city! Many feel Bozeman is growing too fast as it is...........and now with full jails and more and more homeless roaming our neighborhoods.............CITIZENS ARE NO LONGER SAFE!
