Dear Bozeman City Commission,
Please strongly consider approving the Parks Division's 2024 Cash-in-lieu of Parkland
budget proposal which includes the funding for Bozeman Pond Park's new volleyball
courts.
I am a coach and parent with Big Sky Volleyball Club, the former head volleyball
coach at Bozeman High and a long and a longtime athlete in the sport of beach
volleyball alongside a large adult volleyball community. As you have probably heard,
Bozeman Beach (Glen Lake Park) is bursting at the seams. The sand courts are dug
out, there is a lot of drinking, swearing, dogs, garbage around now. In essence, it is
overused because we do not have a lot of good options in the community or places for
our youth (or adult athletes) to grow in this amazing sport of beach volleyball in a safe
environment.
Bozeman boasts of being an "outdoorsy" place, but we aren't just skiers, runners,
climbers and hikers. Please help us to create more access for the fastest growing sport
in the world, in Bozeman! Creating 4 well built courts to the Bozeman Pond area
would allow for growth of the sport, a safe space to be outside and opportunities for
events that bring revenue to the community such as hosting regional beach volleyball
tournaments.
Thank you for your consideration,
Jeni Anderson, MA, EdS, LCPC
