Johnson - 2024 Cash-in-lieu of Parkland budget proposalFrom:Nick Johnson To:Agenda Subject:2024 Cash-in-lieu of Parkland budget proposal Date:Thursday, June 1, 2023 2:24:04 PM Attachments:image001.png CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the organization. To whom it may concern, I am writing this email as a request for the approval of adding 4 sand volleyball courts to the Bozeman Ponds park area. The two courts currently located at Bozeman Beach/Glen Lake Park are insufficient to a city of our size. The courts are super busy at all times of the day especially if the weather is nice. Adding 4 sand courts would relieve pressure and over-use of the courts at Bozeman Beach. By adding courts to Bozeman Pond area, it will be much more convenient for many residents living on the popular west side of town. The city of Missoula has sand courts located at Playfair park. These are constantly being used by residents. It also allows for Missoula to host beach volleyball leagues, youth clinics as well as hosting tournaments every Friday all summer long. Beach volleyball’s popularity is soaring especially among the youth. “the emerging sport of girls’ beach volleyball nearly tripled its number of participants between 2018-19 and 2021-22, thanks to the increasing prevalence of beach volleyball at the collegiate level.” (https://www.sportsdestinations.com/sports/volleyball/beach-volleyball-participation- triples-30933) Beach volleyball is becoming a very popular sport for young and old, males and females. The city of Bozeman could desperately use additional beach courts. It would be a valuable addition to our wonderful community. Thanks for your time.
